How We Got Started

Our company was established in 1970 as Computer Placement Incorporated (CPI User’s Group) arranging for companies to access mainframe computer time. Shortly thereafter, we added computer supplies to service our customers. In the 1980s, we provided Computer Associates, the world’s largest mainframe software distributor, with custom length mini 9 track computer tape for software distribution. Soon we carved out a market niche for many other software distributors. We molded mini reels in custom colors and raised logos and offered a full line of labeling and packaging products for them. Our expertise with the software distribution market brought us into the 1990s distributing short length data cartridges (4mm, 8mm & QIC) and refurbished 9 track and 3480/3490 tape. In the year 2000 we merged with Media Mastr Magnetics, Inc (one of the largest refurbished tape manufacturers) and became Media Mastr Computer Products, Inc (Media Mastr CPI).
